Just In: Hon Benjamin Washiali, The Former Mumias East Legislator Returns into Political Limelight..
The political undertones in Mumias East Constituency are shaping up. This is after the former Mumias East Legislator, who is currently the Chairman of Tourism Regulatory Authority Board in President William Ruto's government has openly displayed pointers that he will be in for a duel with the incumbent Legislator, Hon Peter Salasya.
Hon Washiali served Mumias East from 2007 when he floored the then MP Hon Wycliffe Osundwa on Orange Democratic Movement Party ticket. He was re-elected subsequently in 2013 and 2017 in a race that was tipped to be tight in the history of the region's elections. Political pundits will tell you that during his regime as a Legislator, he initiated a number of projects in the Constituency that has since made his reputation indelibly printed in the minds of locals here. Many can testify that it is during his tenure when Education Sector experienced a revamp with establishment of different Education Centres and institutions like Kenya Medical Training Campus at Shianda, Wanga Technical Training Institute in Lubinu Lusheya Ward and Indangalasya Polytechnic. Working closely with the governor of the day, they jointly improved health status of the Constituency by lobbying for construction of Dispensaries in the three wards and a Level 4 hospital at Makunga. Many Youths can only wax lyrical of Hon Washiali for enrolling them into available job opportunities not forgetting his relentless love for Sports and Nurturing of talents through the CDF Tournaments. As part of founder members of Jubilee Party, and having won the trust of his former boss President Uhuru Kenyatta, Hon Washiali was elevated as the Chief Whip in the National Assembly. This highlights the commitment and tireless service delivery of Hon Washiali to humanity.
However, On 02/01/2022, Hon Washiali shocked many Kenyans when he released a shocking pressor that he will not be vying for the Parliamentary seat but will invest his time and resources to drum up support for United Democratic Alliance leaders especially the then Deputy President Hon Ruto.
The announcement did not boil down well with his close lieutenants who staged peaceful demonstrations clamoring for re-consideration of his stance as he was deemed a father figure in the region. Ultimately, Hon Salasya stunned many when he eventually succeeded him. Hon Washiali has given the incumbent Legislator ample space and time to lead without necessarily hoisting his voice. Currently, there has been a leadership lapse in the area where the incumbent has been criticised of misappropriation of public coffers and lacking the public figure that conforms to a national leader. On a number of occasion, he has been seen on social media sites contacting himself in a manner and way that do not befit an elected leader. This antics has aided in suppressing growth and development of the sub-county, a factor that instigated Hon Washiali to emerge out of the woods.
Speaking yesterday at the burial of the late Christopher Wamatsi, the brother to Board Chairman Utalii College Hon David Wamatsi, Hon Washiali called out the incumbent Legislator without mincing words to effect the obligations he was mandated to by the electorates or face it rough in the coming elections. According to him, Hon Salasya is still basking in the glory of projects he initiated for the three terms he was in power and he challenged him to launch new projects to the benefit of those that elected him at the expense of picking wars with other leaders and spending most time on social media platforms. How will the masses receive the come back of Hon Washiali into Mumias East Political geography? Let's engage in the comment section and know your reservations on this subject.
A section of Mumias East populace have since taken to the social media sites praising the former law maker, cherishing the good moments they shared and some drumming support for his return in the political fray of Mumias East as their Legislator. We wait with bated breath on the next course of action that the Honourable Washiali will take.
